What Is CCNA?

The Cisco Certified Network Associate which is mostly abbreviated as CCNA is an IT (information technology) certification from the Cisco Networking Systems. CCNA certification is simply an associate-level Cisco Career certification.

The Cisco exams have been modified several times in response to the ever-changing trends in information technology. In 2013, Cisco Systems announced an update to its certification program that aligns their certification and training curriculum with the every-day evolving industry job roles. There are now several distinctive types of Cisco-certified Network Associate, with the CCNA Routing and Switching being the closest to the primary focus of  CCNA other types of CCNA certifications focus on cloud, security, design, collaboration, industrial plants, security operations, data center technologies, service providers, and wireless.

The content of the CCNA exams are proprietary. Cisco and their learning partners offer its students a mixture of different training methods, from the various books that are published by the Cisco Press, to the various online simulated classroom mediums that are made available under the title "Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices".

To complete the Routing and Switching certification course of CCNA, a candidate must achieve a passing score on the Cisco exam #200-125 or have a summed up passing score on both the "Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices 2" ICND2 #200-105 and the "Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices 1" ICND1 #100-105 exams. Passing the ICND1 exam awards the candidate the Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT) certification. At the conclusion of the exam, the candidates would receive a score report together with a breakout os his score by the exam section and the passing score for that particular exam.

The CCNA exam tests the knowledge and skills of a candidate that is required to install, operate, and troubleshoot a small to a medium-size enterprise branch network. The various topics here include connecting to a WAN( wide area network), implementing various network security, network types, network media, IP addressing, operating and configuring IOS devices, fundamentals of routing and switching, the TCP/IP and the OSI models, WAN technologies, determining IP routes, extending switched networks with VLANs, managing IP traffic with access lists, and establishing point-to-point connections.
